Art in the park

Why not take a walk in the Botanic Gardens and take a look at the art trail. A fantastic collaboration between Churchtown Primary School, Sefton Leisure Services - Parks department, Botanic Gardens Action Group, North Meols Civic Society and a variety of artists including the Kaleidoscope team. The SEAL theme 'It's good to be me' was explored from every direction.

Mira worked with the children to explore their feelings about themselves and their friends, through music and dance. Sarah taught everyone traditional dance routines with a Ceilidh and led music in the park, where over 880 children sang some much loved Beatles songs; quite a feat!!

Alison and I worked collaboratively with Year 2 to join the children's explorations in poetry with their paintings and together we have created an interactive series of paintings exploring friendship and the children's own personalities. See the end result as you walk through the park.

With Year 6 I worked on their mosaic skills. The children thought about elements of the park that they enjoy and translated these into designs which now adorn the stepping stones in the park.

What a fantastic project to bring the community together in both working and appreciation of each others skills.

Let’s hope it's the first of many collaborations of this sort.

Art in the Park was a fantastic achievement with over 880 children taking part - the Kaleidoscope team supported us every step of the way , and their fabulous ideas helped to shaped an exciting and memorable event .

120 Yr4 children performed their Indian Dances taught by Mira in the wonderful autumnal setting of the park , watched by parents , visitors and 400 other children . All the Nursery , Reception and KS1 children ( 420) danced Ceilidh in the mud in their wellies led by Sarah and Gallimaufry followed by a whole school Beatles Fest . Truly wonderful memories .

Yr2 and Yr6 are very proud to see their work displayed in the park and we intend to build on this with future projects with Kaleidoscope . Year One loved making beautiful bead frames for the playground .

Thank you to Sarah, Norrie , Alison , Mira, Pete . Roger and Sankalpam.
